What I'm Wearing: Rainy Day Duds

1-11-2012 small
Cream cardigan: hand-me-down from my friend S.
Striped tank: thrifted
Burgundy cords: Gap, Hebron Gap Outlet
Socks: Eddie Bauer, gift from S.
Boots: Hunter, gift from my mom
Scarf: gift from One Red Boot, made in a craft swap ages ago (thanks, I still love it!)

Today I woke up to the sound of pouring rain, and all thoughts of putting together an interesting outfit, doing my hair, or putting on makeup went out the window.  January has been beautiful so far, but I've heard that the rain will usher in actual winter temperatures.  Sadface!

The one good thing about the rain is that it gives me an excuse to enjoy my big Christmas gift - these awesome Hunter wellies (thanks, mom)!  I hate, hate, HATE cold, wet feet.  Seriously, I can't even stand other people having cold, wet feet - I shudder every time I see a girl walking around in ballet flats on a rainy day.  I've had my eye on Hunter rain boots for years, but they always seemed ridiculously expensive for a pair of rubber boots.  One day this fall, however, I was walking to school and suddenly discovered that my cheap-o Target rain boots (which are less than a year old) had developed cracks in both feet.  I spent a very grouchy day in wet socks, and decided that expensive rain boots might be worth the money.  Now I hope that my Hunters live up to their reputation of lasting forever!

What are your thoughts on rain boots?  Do you stick with the cheapies, or have you tried pricier versions?

Happy Wednesday!

*Yes, I still have my holiday decorations up.  I can't help it; the thought of taking them down makes me so sad!

I used to loooove my Hunter wellies! They're so comfy. They were very much the 'in thing' to wear at the yard when I used to help out at my local riding stables. Used to ride in them too (naughty!)

I don't know about the US, but here in the UK I think the quality has gone downhill in the last couple of years. I put it down to Kate Moss wearing them, their sales shot up and I think they must have changed manufacturers, because the last pair I bought cracked after less than a year. So now I stick with cheapies!

I love the cords. I used to have a very similar pair from J Crew. Now Wellies for me- it never rains in Colorado.

We're boot twins!!!! I love my Hunter wellies, too. I wear them everywhere and to everything. It's terrible. But I love them to death.

Rainy days are wonderful. Now you're making me want some cords!

I like the Wellies. I usually get cheaper rain boots. I like the more expensive ones, but I'm not sure if it is rainy enough here to justify them. I do spend more on my snow boots.
