Currently Sewing: The Darling Ranges Dress

Darling Ranges 2 small

I love all of Megan Nielsen's gorgeous designs, so I was thrilled when she came out with a line of sewing patterns, and even more thrilled when she sweetly sent me a pattern to try!  The Darling Ranges dress was one of my favorites from last year's collection, and I love the idea of making my own version at home.

Megan actually sent me this pattern over two months ago, and I've been searching for the perfect fabric since then.  I wanted a print, but just couldn't find something that seemed right.  In the end, I shopped from my stash - I bought this lightweight blue shirting so long ago that I can't remember what I originally intended to do with it!  I'm glad to be using it (finally!).

The pattern is pretty darling, itself.  The pattern paper is nice and thick (no tissue, hooray!), and the instruction booklet is perfectly designed.

Yes, I said booklet, not pamphlet - Megan's directions are printed into an easy-to-follow book, rather than the confusing pamphlet style most big name pattern manufacturers use.

I love how she included ideas for customizing the dress in the back of the book.

And there's even a pattern log!

I cut out all the pieces this weekend (my least favorite part of the process), and now I can't wait to start sewing.  I'm a little nervous - it's been awhile since I've sewn anything from a pattern - but it looks like it should come together easily.  I'll let you all know how it goes!

If you'd like to make a Darling Ranges dress of your own, you can buy the pattern here.  Or, make it even easier on yourself and buy the Darling Ranges sewing kit - it comes with absolutely everything you need to make your dress!

Thanks, Megan!

I'm really looking forward to seeing how this turns out! I am so tempted to buy this pattern, but I am trying to control myself/be realistic about how much I can possibly sew!

Great choice! This will be so cute. It's been forever since I've sewed from a pattern too, as I've been focusing on revamping thrifted stuff, but I think that creating a garment from scratch every now and then is a great way to sharpen sewing skills. Can't wait to see how this turns out!

The sewing log is such a brilliant idea. It is always so hard to remember the adjustments you have made on a pattern the next time you go to make it. Blogging helps me remember because I tend to write the adjustments I make in my post.

That looks like it will be a really cute dress. I like the "pattern log" for personal notes about the project. That is so helpful!
