On Being an Archaeologist

Silly hats are not required, but strongly encouraged.

Lately my inbox has been positively flooded with emails from readers wanting to learn more about my job as an archaeologist.  It's so awesome to see so many people interested in a career in archaeology!  Like anything, archaeology has plenty of challenges, but it's also an incredibly rewarding field - definitely my dream job.

For those wanting to learn more about what I do, the fabulous Sarah Von of Yes and Yes (one of my favorite blogs) interviewed me last year for her "Ture Story" series - you can read that interview by clicking here.  It includes some general background on my work, as well as advice for budding archaeologists.  If you have more questions, please leave them here in the comments - I'd be happy to answer anything.

This is my last week abroad this summer; I head home on Sunday, and cannot wait to get there!  Have a great Wednesday, everyone!!

this is awesome! Thanks for putting a link up to your interview :) My fiance always wanted to be an archeologist, I'm definitely going to share this with him.

excellent! I think I've been following you for roughly a year and a half, because when I found out you were an archaeologist I instantly put you in my reader! :)
I wanted to do that up until the age of about 15, when my grades in chemistry (and my frustration with the subject) bummed me out enough to start looking for a new career choice (yes, I was actually thinking of that when I was 15!). I had wanted to do it since I was little, went to 'kid digs' around the state, museums and geography/history books were what I asked for for holidays. I just love reading the posts!!

Hi, I'm an archaeologist too... from South America. We seem to have similar interests: archaeology, photos and sewing. I like your blog. And love the places where you.
I was touring in Pompeii last January, what an incredible place to dig. :D
