Two Photos from Italy

When I travel to Italy, I always fly into Rome, because it's cheapest.  Then I spend the entire trip waiting for the first view of Mount Vesuvius.  Once I see it, I know I'm "home."  My favorite place in my apartment is the balcony, where I sit most nights (and from which I took this photo yesterday), watching the sunset over the volcano.

And just in case you ever wondered what happens when an iPad is knocked out a fourth floor window...

Note: this is not my iPad (thankfully!), nor was I involved in the knocking.  Plus it has already been replaced.  All of those things mean that I can find the situation really, really funny.  Scotch tape to the rescue!

Happy Wednesday!

I'm an archaeologist who lives in America during the year, but travels to Italy and Greece to conduct research in the summer.  I'm currently living and working in (and blogging from) Pompei, Italy, where I spend my days digging up the ancient city.

Oh, your job sounds incredible! I always found the thought of Pompeii fascinating as a child; I'd love to visit it some time (but feel a bit weird about that, too...).
