This outfit asks two questions: 1) How many neutrals can you wear at once? and 2) How many textures can you wear at once? (the answer to both is four, apparently).
After a brief moment of spring, winter is back in full force. I don't think we are going to have a very pretty spring - the trees had started budding during the warm spell, and now the buds are turning brown and falling off. So sad! This is a classic outfit for me this winter - neutrals, texture, boots, blousy tops and slim pants have all been defining features of my wardrobe this season. I'm starting to think about spring and summer style, but don't want to put a plan into action until I'm sure that spring really is here!

This thrifted sweater has been a favorite of mine lately - I like the way the detail subtly plays into the strong shoulder trend, without being too over-the-top.
So these pictures are actually two days old; I took them on Monday. If I'd taken them today, I would look a bit different, because yesterday I did this:

That's right...PERM! I've been thinking about perming my hair for over a year, and last week my stylist and I finally decided that my hair is long enough to pull it off. I have stick straight hair that won't hold a curl for anything - even sleeping in curlers over night results in curls that last less than an hour. Having a head full of bouncy curls feels so weird!

I'm still getting used to the results; yesterday I felt like I was wearing a wig. I definitely love how easy it is - I literally rolled out of bed this morning and didn't need to do a single thing to it. My natural hair requires at least a soak and a blow out in the morning if it's not going to be flat and stringy all day (if not a full wash), so this feels really freeing! So far the only inconvenient thing is that I have strict orders not to get it wet for 48 hours - yup, I now have the Mogwai of hair. It's been spitting rain and snow all day today, so I've been huddled under my umbrella in a fit of paranoia whenever I go outside. Nate suggested that I get an old lady style plastic bonnet, hehe.

I love making big changes to my hair; about once a year (usually in the spring) I feel like I have to switch it up somehow. This is probably the most drastic change I've ever made, but I think (fingers crossed) that I'm going to be happy with it. Now if only the process had been more pleasant - three and a half hours at the salon with rollers pulling my hair and poking my head was not my idea of a fun afternoon!
How do you feel about your hair? Do you like to change it, or do you prefer to stick with the same style?

oooh! I got a perm too, same reason. The only thing I don't like about a perm is admitting that I have one. hee.
I love changing my hair up, sticking with the same style all the time is boring!
Oh, Alli! I love the past photo! So soft and dreamy and i love your knitted top! Looks warm.
I haven't had haircut for centuries. I just dye my hair, from red, to cuprum, to gold, violet, anything.

Your curls look great! I love changing my hair and at least slightly alter the color every 6 weeks! I just went from dark red to blonde with pink.
Your hair looks fantastic! When I think perm I still think like 1980s awful dry frizz...nothing like what you have there. Pretty.
it looks wonderful!
GORGEOUS! You look like you were meant for curly hair!! I love my curly hair! :) You will LOVE how easy it is to do everyday!
Your hair looks so cute! I love having curls in my hair. Mine is the opposite though.. If I braid it while its damp I have soft curls all day. This becomes a pain though when my hair is shoulder length and the ends start to flip up from just resting on my shoulders. I think I'm going to dye mine lighter soon. Time to change it up!!
Looove your outfit..the hair is gorgeous! My hair goes both ways, and it is odd on days I go curly, my head feels almost heavier- and then I absentmindedly play with my boingy curls, and miss them when they're not there on "straight days" Which I have to say, are not very many anymore, wash and go is the way to go lately for me! :) ~Mary
ha! mogwai of hair! too funny.
I love the perm. It suits you.
your hair looks darling! GREAT decision.
xo,

so pretty - love the perm :)
i also like the boots a lot!!!
Ooooo, I love the perm. It is really making me think about getting one. It is already hot and humid in south Texas and I hate having to blow dry my fine hair every morning.
that's so pretty on you!
i like to switch things up with my hair every now and then, too; it's gonna grow out anyway, so why not? but it's been a while now, i'll probably have to do something drastic soon. i'm thinking of maybe going redhead?
Aww!! I love your perm!! My hair is naturally curly (wavy), though it seems like the longer I let it grow the more the curls "fall out." I've been thinking about getting a perm but I have no idea how that will go - and then I don't know if I'll want to admit it!! Oooh decisions!! Was it expensive?
Thank you for all the perm love, everyone! It's such a big change that I'm still a little freaked out every time I look in the mirror, haha.
Delpheena, you should totally go red, but beware red addiction! I started coloring my hair red last year, and doubt I'll stop anytime in the near future - it's such a fun color.
Becky, it wasn't cheap, but wasn't too bad - I paid $100, which seems reasonable for how long I was in the salon! Plus, my stylist tells me that even if I decide to keep it up, I can wait six months to a year before doing it again, so it's not a constant expense, like coloring.
LOVE the polka dot blouse! so cute! xoxo jcd :: do stop by, im hosting a jewelry giveaway: cornflake dreams
I wish I could perm just the back of my hair. The sides have beautiful texture, curl, etc. The back always looks like I slept on it funny. (let's not count the times I actually DO sleep on it funny.)
congrats on the perm! it looks really great.
funny thing is that i actually have natural curls and waves and i feel like it takes a lot of time as well. it takes me a good 5 or 10 minutes just to brush out all the knots.
