Is there anything more perfect than curling up with a knitting project on a freezing cold night? I've been a knitting fiend lately. With the temperatures we've been having, it would be impossible to have too many cozy knits to bundle up in!

My new hat is the Star Crossed Slouchy Beret by Natalie Larson. This was my first time making this pattern, and I really liked it. It's a super quick and easy knit - I took it on our trip to Texas and finished it before we even arrived (and then had nothing to knit on the way home, oh no!). If you've never tried cables before, this would be a great first pattern for them. It knit up WAY smaller than I expected, but blocking it over a plate brought it up to size. I've worn it nearly everyday since finishing it.
The yarn is Cascade 220 left over from my granny square afghan - I love free knitting projects! It only took about half a skein.

The cowl is Jen Geigly's (of Hey Jen Renee) Gap-tastic cowl. This pattern could not be easier - just ages and ages of seed stitch. I actually made it twice because the pattern size (131 stitches) was HUGE on me - it hung nearly to my knees! Sometimes I forget that I'm a shorty. I frogged it, re-cast on with 99 stitches, and knit to 10", which made it the perfect size. I never want to take it off - it's so cooshy and cozy! Exactly what I wanted.
This yarn is Lion Brand Thick and Quick Wool Ease. I expected it to be too itchy for a scarf, but it's surprisingly soft and cozy, for being so inexpensive.

Have a good Tuesday!
PS - thanks to Nate for photographing this post, and to Percy for coming outside in the cold and keeping me company!

i need to learn how to knit! your scarf and hat look so cozy! xoxo jcd
I need to learn to knit too. I just crochet, badly. Straight lines is all I can accomplish.
Wow that's awesome, I can't knit at all but this is definitely making me want to!

i've been knitting too. it's just now getting cold in the south, so i've been hurrying to make a few new scarves!
wow! they are so beautiful! (as she adds "learn to knit" onto her list....) i love lion brand wool ease, it comes together so quickly and comfy!
Love them both! I love knitting! There is no day without a little knitting!
I've knitted that slouchy hat, too! It's gorgeous!!
Hugs xxx
You are inspiring me to get out my knitting. I love the beret.
no wonder i love your blog!! i recently finished the same beret! i used inca alpaca in the same shade of grey and it came out a bit big so i gifted it to a good friend. the cowl just happens to be next on my list! great job with both :)
My boyfriend's grandmother just knitted me some socks, and I love them. It seems like everyone is knitting but me!
By the way I LOVE your bag :)
I love them both! I've become a pretty good knitter. I just made my first hat but it looks rather goofy. I made a baby blanket for my friend out of hte softest yarn ever but it was really expensive to do so. I prefer to buy cheap yarn like I did for the hat but it just didn't turn out like it should have. I guess I'm not sure what to do for yarn most of the time - any adivce?
Love your hat and scarf, so cozy xx
fabulous knits!
you look so snug in all your knits!
adore that scarf - the hat is fantastic too!
two things:
1. SNOW ENVY!!!!
2. I wish I could knit. Sigh.
I love the cowl - I so want one!
Chic on the Cheap
These are both adorable, but I especially love the cowl! I've had a hankering to knit socks lately... maybe this is the perfect time to start!
What lovely light in this photo!! And all the knits look cooshy. Well done!
Love both the scarf and hat. Well done! Your photos have amazing lighting! Cheers!
when that building behind you was still a frat house, my friends and i would call it "frat castle". haha.
Great pics! They make you look all big-city trendy. I like it.
I love knitting! I wanted to try to make a hat similar to this! LOVE it it's absolutely lovely! I love that color of cowl too!
Both projects are so lovely, and make me wish I could knit.
These are fantastic! And you look so warm and bundled! My husband (believe it or not) knitted me a cowl neck for christmas! I wear it quite often:)
I made that same hat a couple of years ago, and since I moved to Boston this winter I've been wearing mine A TON. Mine turned out smaller than I expected, too. Weirdly, I also made a cowl out of that very same yarn you did, although I just made up a pattern. I like yours better, though. I've also been knitting-crazy lately--I made my own pattern for a braided cable headband/earwarmer (http://transientexpression.wordpress.com/2011/01/11/tutorial-tuesday-cable-knit-headband/), and I just finished a pair of heart handwarmers (pattern coming next week). The cold weather is a great knitting motivator!
Alli, these pics are divine!
Tone xo
The knits are great and so is the FUTURE CLIFTON LIBRARY behind you!!!
