Summertime Inspiration

Sometimes I start to feel a little melancholy this time of year, as I hear others make their summer plans for long weekends, barbecues, road trips, and flea markets.  Then I remember that my summers are pretty awesome, too.  Here are some of the things that I'm looking forward to:

living out of a suitcase (something that I actually enjoy, at least for a few weeks)

being close to history

house wine

train travel

reading on the beach

espresso after dinner
sunshine

gelato (!!)

and the healthy Italian food, too

vintage sundresses

polaroids (right now I'm planning on bringing four packs of film, but that number might grow)

unbelievably blue water in Greece

introducing my parents to the eternal city (their first trip to Europe - so exciting!)

and in my dreams, one of these (I think I'm going to have to get a car instead - almost certainly with a manual transmission, which should make for an interesting adventure)

What are you excited about this summer?

I have to tell you, I made my boyfriend promise to take me on a pizza and gelato tour of Italy someday. He's Italian and has lots of family there, so I'm hoping we don't have to pay for hotels so we can spend the money on food instead.

I'm glad you all liked the photos! S, S & L - I live in Ohio, but spend my summers in Europe for work. :) It's a rough life!

Working! Seriously, it's more fun than it sounds when you've been unemployed. I'm so excited I'm even having a giveaway on my blog. Who knew crap jobs could be so awesome?

Oh, and maybe more cooking and crafting than I can shake a stick at.

You had me at gelato. :)

I'm looking forward to fun nights with friends around our firepit. The opportunity to start some healthy routines. A break from being Mrs. Bess. (I mean Mrs. Bess the teacher...definitely not taking a break from Mrs. Bess the married gal...LOL!) And celebrating my 30th birthday.

Have an amazing field season - I hope it is productive! I'm planning to defend my dissertation in July and then move for a post-doc so I'll be seeing nothing but the inside of my office until then!

You're coming to Italy!!! If you make it
as far north as Liguria drop me a line. It would be fun to meet you in person.
