What I've Been Knitting: Christmas Gifts!

It's freezing out today, so I'm taking advantage of finals week (hooray, no classes to teach!) by working from home. I'm currently curled up on the sofa with one glass of apple cider, one dissertation database, and one very happy kitty-cat. The only downside to all of this is that my outfit is most definitely *not* fit to be shared with the general public. So instead of our regularly scheduled outfit post, I'd like to share some of the gifts I've been knitting.

First up, slippers made from Melynda's French Press Felted Slippers pattern. I love these! The pattern was fabulous, and the slippers themselves are beyond warm and comfy. Highly, highly recommended. You can bet that I'll be making a pair for myself as soon as the holidays are over.

The buttons are vintage from my stash.

To give the bottoms some grip, I added split soles cut from a rug liner (found in the remnants bin at Jo Ann Fabrics for 50 cents). They are super grippy now!

I only hope that the recipient will love them as much as I do!

With some of my leftover yarn (along with some other scraps from the stash), I tackled a knitted version of Herbst Handmade's crocheted loop baby toy. I'm really happy with how it came out! I followed the directions when it came to stitch numbers and measurements, but simply knit (on three size 6 DPNs) instead of crocheted.

The newest nephew will be getting this, along with some diaper covers made from this pattern. I have so many abandoned sweater sleeves in my stash, and this seems like a great use for them.

How are your crafted gifts coming along?

My gifts are getting there. I made my hubby's Grandmother a neat multistrand knitted scarf for her 90th birthday tomorrow. I've got a couple of blankets, hats, scarves and some other small things still left to finish.. And some quilting left to do. Hopefully I can get it all done in next few weeks!

I thought it would be awesome to make most of the gifts this year, and I did it! I feel so much happier with what I made everyone, and the gifts are way cuter. I made some black apple dolls, some vinyl lettering on wood, clean/dirty magnets for the dishwasher, and photo stuff for the grandparents. I LOVE those shoes. Oh my goodness, you are so talented. I wish I could knit! Maybe knitting will be my next adventure...

Oh no, Drew's on to me!

Wow, Aislynn - sounds like you are doing a lot! I'm sure all the recipients will be thrilled, though.

TTA - those gifts sound wonderful! Black Apple dolls are probably my favorite thing to give little girls. They are just so cute (and fun to make). You should try knitting! The slippers are actually very easy to make - they just look impressive. That's always my favorite kind of project!

Very cute! I love the idea of felting but refuse to do it in a laundromat, so that adventure will have to wait. I would love to make those slippers, though, they are adorable.

I'm making fingerless gloves, considering knitting a doily into a blanket for my cousin's new baby, and dithering about getting back into embroidery for gifts, but I'm not sure the last two will happen for this Christmas!

Yay! I'm so excited to see the Finished slipper pics. Next up for me is a pair in a granite grey. I just need to make and ship 20 pairs by the end of next week...then I get some!

Hi! how did you apply the rug liner? Did you sew or glue or what? thanks!

Wow, those are some serious crafty plans, Larkin! Everything sounds awesome - post photos!

Wow, you really have been knitting up a storm, Melynda! That's what you get for writing such a great pattern, hehe. I'll be sure to let you know what the recipient thinks of the slippers.

acmcs - I stitched on the liners (by hand). I wanted to make sure that they wouldn't come off!

Those felted slippers look so, so perfect. And how precious is that soft baby toy?! Awesome.

Thanks, Trish - I'm glad you like them!

Oh I love your slippers, and the
very smart styling of the pattern!
My question is..would this pattern be suitable to use with recycled felted sweaters??..boo-hoo..I can't knit!!!..

The knitted version of 'loop' looks great!! I love the color combo (am actually knitting a dark maple-merle sweater right now myself) You should post the pattern on Ravelry if you haven't already. :-)
