Tutorial: Pom-Pom Garland

For the second post of the holiday yarn-crafts series (do two posts make a series? I'm going to pretend that it does), I give you my favorite thing that I have made in a long time: pom-pom garlands!

To make a pom-pom garland, you'll need:
- yarn in colors that make you happy
- scissors
- a medium/large crochet hook (I used a 6mm)

Step 1: make a bunch of pom-poms. I like Domestifluff's tutorial, but any method will do. There's only one thing you need to be sure to do here: DON'T clip the ends of the central piece of yarn that you use to gather up your loops. Clip everything else, but leave those pieces long.

Step 2: using your crochet hook, chain a string that is as long as you would like your garland to be (mine are about 16 ft long). If you've never crocheted, don't worry! Chaining is easy-peasey; I can't crochet *at all,* but can chain like a master. Here's a picture-by-picture tutorial, and here is a video.

Step 3: using the long pieces that are still attached to your pom-poms, tie the pom-poms tightly to the crochet chain. Trim the ends. My 16 ft. garlands used between 15-20 pom-poms each.

Ta-da! Festive! I have one garland hanging from the mantle, and another draped over a floor lamp. They make me smile every time I walk into our apartment. I hope they make you smile, too!

Lovely garland! I tried making one by tying the long ends together, but the poms were really heavy on the one piece of yarn and it hung in weird angles. I like yours better, I'll give it a try and see if it looks better!

Thanks, everyone! I'd love to see your garlands, if you decide to try it (you should - it's fun!). Oh my gosh, Charismagic, that sounds like one BIG pom-pom! Haha, did you take pictures of the finished product?
