My New Skirt

(Interested in our clutter? Notes for this photo are here!)

Yup, I was bit by the sewing bug this weekend. It has been a long, long time since I've felt compelled to sew, but doing it again was incredibly soothing and put me in a fantastic mood. I loved making my new skirt, and I love the result!

At first, I wasn't sure what I wanted to make. I browsed through my bookmarks and came across Jessica at What I Wore's sewing class posts, in which she hosted a sew-along for a cute dirndl skirt. Perfect! Unfortunately, I discovered partway through that she had never actually finished the series, but at that point all that was left to do was add the zipper and attach the waistband, which (I'm extremely proud to say!) are well within my capabilities these days.

This fabric has been in my stash forever. It's a peachy-tan linen with little blue velvet flowers scattered about. I thrifted a few yards of it for a dollar over a year ago. The zipper was also thrifted, along with about a hundred others inside a big bin (an awesome find for $3!). The only thing new in this skirt is the thread. So basically this cost $1 and a few pennies...hooray!

The shoes are also new, and I am totally in love with them. I want to wear them everyday until they fall to pieces, then I want to buy a new pair.

I was intending to only show the bottom half of my body in this picture, but for some reason the full-length version cracks me up and I just had to share it. I look so annoyed, as if I'm bothering myself by taking these pictures. I'm also unshowered and definitely *not* smiling with my eyes. What would Tyra say?

Very cute.. Would you be willing to do a sewing tutorial? I was given a sewing machine and I have no idea how to use it and I would love to learn!! Even something basic

Very cute! I have made a couple of skirts that were loosly based on Jessica's dirndl tutes. Once you do it once they are so easy to keep making.

Very cute skirt. It's a little out of season for me. It's so cold here!

Love it! My new requirment for buying dresses/skirts is that they MUST have pockets. Seriously, why are more not made like this. Tyra would definitely give you a talk about 'smyzing'!

I lovelovelove your skirt! It looks like a great vintage find - how cool that you actually made it yourself.

I love love love the skirt! It's too cute! And Tyra would definitely NOT approve. It's ok. She doesn't really matter, anyway!

Thanks, everybody! Yeah, it's definitely out of season here too, but I *think* I can make it work with tights and a sweater. We'll see.
Oh my gosh, I had totally forgotten that "smiling with your eyes" is not a verb. Tyra has really outdone herself with "smyzing."
