Faux Bois, je t'aime

For Valentine's Day this year, Nate surprised me with an iPod Touch. My old iPod has been on its last legs for awhile (when I say old, I mean OLD - we are talking G3 old. Before the era of colored screens and click wheels). This was a huge surprise because we usually don't really "do" Valentine's day. I know, my husband is amazing. Anyway, I decided that the new iPod needed a case, and of course I made it myself. My original iPod never had a case - that thing has travelled all over the world tossed carelessly in a bag or shoved in a pocket. After so many years, I like to say that it looks well loved, but honestly it's a mess. Needless to say, the new version seems way too nice for that sort of treatment. So, I whipped up this little cozy. I liked the idea of fauxbois; it seems fitting to keep such a complex piece of technology in something so natural.

Front, posing with the little bird bud vases that live on my sewing table (well, they are actually salt and pepper shakers, but I think they are cuter as bud vases).

Back:

The case is made with six layers: the outer linen with wood grain stitching, a layer of heavy interfacing, a layer of muslin on the other side of the interfacing, two layers of thin batting, and a lining of lens wipes. That gives it a nice sturdy exterior, with a cushy interior. The lens wipe lining was Nate's brilliant idea. It won't scratch the iPod, plus it keeps it clean. I stitched everything together with bias tape so that there would be no scratchy seams on the inside.

Nice and cozy!

That is quite a secure ipod cozy! I love the stitching you did on the front.
